Apt to Look Elsewhere

Reading Oswald Chambers “My Utmost For His Highest” with intent and an inclined ear.

He talks about how easy it is to look to God when things are bad…

But that in His blessings we lose sight of Him.

It reminded me of when I was a kid.

I didn’t receive much in way of presents for birthdays or Christmas… a little but not much.

But I remember getting a large, spring actuated, rocking horse when I was 4 or 5…

And me wanting to be a cowboy at the time, who am I kidding… I still want to be a cowboy, but I went running from my mom and jumped on “my horse”!!

I remember “outfitting” it with a lasso(moms clothes line); a makeshift rifle scabbard(from scraps of leather); and using some kind of Daisy BB gun(coulda been a real one but I’m not sure); wearing my cowboy boots and Davey Crocket coonskin cap!

Yee ha!!

As an adult… and as a man… it’s hard to stay focused on “the One who blesses” vs. acknowledging the blessings… and sometimes I don’t even do that… it’s like we get attacked, no not attacked, that’s too small of a word… tsunami… that’s more like it, and we are just in a rowboat.

We know God.

We know He saves.

But we kinda wonder when all He says is…

“Row Davey row!!!”
