Alpha Barbershop!
You want swag… we got swag!

You want attitude… we got attitude!

Oh! Bottom line you just want the best haircut… period… with no hassle; no aggravation; a great conversation; and a shop that can handle you… your son, and that weird cow-lick you have on the back of your head!?! That the other barbers/stylist struggle with!
Yeah… we got you!
“Wait… but you’re all girls, I mean ladies, I mean… I mean…”
“Yeah… we know what ya mean. We get that a lot.” ~ Co-Owner Kayla H.

Alpha Barbershop… specializing in men’s (and boys) custom cuts.
As The Emerging Man, looking for a barber… I had that experience at Alpha… and Kayla is my niece!

I may be an Emerging Man but my actual experience is showing me that there is… an Emerging Woman, or two, out there as well!
I had one of those great conversations the last time I was in for haircut. And dropped off a copy of my latest book: The Joker: A Story About A Guy, A Gal & A Gasser!
What dude wouldn’t want to read about a custom built, bad ass race car, while waiting for one of those smooth custom cuts?

At Alpha Barbershop, I have to be honest, I haven’t seen anybody hanging around waiting for their appointment. The ladies at Alpha are on the ball when on the clock! And they do it in such a way as to not make you feel rushed… hence the good conversation!
After exchanging pleasantries I asked Kayla about a business class her and her business partner had taken prior to making the jump from employee to owner.
“It was great! I learned a lot of little details I never really thought of before taking the class. Yeah I knew we would need “some money” to start, but our teacher, who was just great by the way, showed us how to calculate exactly how much we would need for each step to get our idea off the ground. For example, she said, “The first thing I want you to set aside is… a thousand dollars-ish… for little expenses that pop up, like $300 for utilities you missed, or whatever, you want that thousand – ish dollars on hand just in case, so something like that doesn’t stop your forward progress.”

I never thought of it that way, plus it helped to curb our enthusiasm just enough that we started to take our finances seriously, even though she ended up using -ish a lot in class!”
I know about -ish.
“You do.”
Yeah. When I’m making cheese and the guys on the floor want to know when the cheese will be done running I tell them, “9:45 – ish”, they hate that, but there are a lot of things that can affect that end time. Just like, I’m sure you found, there were a lot of little things that affect your monthly business budget.
“Sure are. They seem so stupid too. But we found out right away how they can get out of hand if you don’t address them right away.”

Well I like how excited you still are running this place. You know, I think you would be a great speaker for high school girls, like 9th and 10th graders. You could share your story with them and maybe spark one or two to determine a path for themselves in business… who knows!?!
“Some day. I’m enjoying myself right now, doing what we’re doing, so I don’t have any feelings or needs to chase something new.”
Not even a little new – ish? You just talked to me about it for 20 minutes. So it isn’t really “new” it’s just “new – ish”.
“I’ll think about it. There ya go all done!”
